The Canadian Embassy is pleased to announce that the 2007 Beijing Terry Fox Run will take place in Chaoyang Park on Saturday, October 13rd.
The Chinese Cancer Institute and Hospital is the principal organiser of this year’s run. The first Beijing Terry Fox Run was held in 1999 and funds raised last year amounted to nearly 1.9 million RMB.
TERRY FOX 活动是由加拿大使馆主办的公益性质活动，主要目的是帮助那些患有癌症的孩子，现在已经举办了五届，从第三届开始我都会带着学校的孩子去参加这个活动，参与方式不限（竞走，跑，自行车，轮滑），每种方式都有一个自己的方阵，整齐有序，不要求完成全部活动过程，可以中途退出，今年的活动定于10月13日进行，参与者会获得义跑证书和T衫，有想参加的家长和小朋友可以与小豆豆巴学园联系（81619016，13810093916），建议有意参加活动的小朋友最好是和家长一起参加，小豆豆巴学园的小朋友将以轮滑形式参加本次活动，活动目的是希望孩子们可以通过这次活动，献出自己的一点爱心。回来会我们会把图片分享给大家。下面是活动原文，翻译的不好，希望各位家长再帮我们翻译一下，谢谢。
This year’s Terry Fox Run will start at 9:00 a.m. on the west side of Lihua Square in Chaoyang Park and end on the east side of Lihua Square, a distance of approximately 7 kilometres. Everyone is invited to participate. Participants can run, walk or use their wheel chairs.
"The Terry Fox Run is no longer just a Canadian event - it is a day for all people from all over the world to gather together and raise funds that are badly and urgently needed to find a cure for cancer. I encourage all members of the Beijing community to come out and participate“, commented his Excellency, Ambassador Robert G. Wright.
The Canadian Embassy and the local community together with our friends at the Cancer Hospital appreciate all donations (large and small). All funds raised by the Terry Fox Run in Beijing will be used for ongoing cancer research in China. The run is a major activity in the city, and has attracted close to 10,000 participants in past editions. An event of this magnitude raises important awareness and counts Beijing among 460 cities worldwide that host this run.
Terry Fox is a well-known Canadian hero. In 1977, 18-year-old Terry Fox, while still at university was diagnosed with bone cancer and forced to have his right leg amputated. In 1980, Terry started his Marathon of Hope across Canada on an artificial leg to raise awareness and money for cancer research. Although Terry was forced to stop running due to his cancer and later passed away at age 22, his legacy was just beginning. The annual Terry Fox Run has been held across Canada and around the world to commemorate his feat and raise more money for cancer research.
