My smart daughter is of school age this summer. Born and grown up in Beijing, she has been making huge efforts for a good primary education. Gifted and diligent, my daughter is not only talented in arts like dance, chess and musical instrument, but also in basic mathematics. She is good performer on the stage as well as a well-behaved daughter at home. Young as she is, my daughter has displayed the kind of perseverance in learning new things. Years ago when she first practiced rope skipping, no matter how tired she was, she never stopped practicing until progress had been made. As her parents, we could not help but feeling embarassed by her perseverance. Before long, she made rapid progress in rope skipping. However, the policy has it that school-age children go to neighbourhood schools. Not satisfied with the neighbourhood school, we started the hard journey of school choice. Since then, my daughter was busy with taking exams and interviews in one school after another. Pretending to care nothing about the results, I cared so much about her performance in those tests that I became hoary-headed in such a short period of time. Excitingly, news of her admission kept pouring in when the whole family was waiting in anxiety . After making a thorough comparison and considering the family's economy bearing capacity, we chose the best affordable school for my daughter. On an impulse, I wrote these lines to commemorate the most remarkable thing which happened to my family this summer.
