Is odds and ends work really so scary?
Many fresh job seekers complained that they get conned, discriminated and used for important assignments. But what you really mean is you are afraid of being sacked, considered unqualified and ended up doing odds and ends. You feel so helpless and unfair. Look, fresh, if this is unfair treatment, you are not ALONE.
You claimed you are CONFIDENT about yourself provided there are some IFs. The problem is that no such IF will be given in many cases. If you are really confident you would stop asking for these ifs. Why don’t you try your best doing whatever you are asked to do and see what is going to happen? If you are really good, it is no problem if they sack you, because you should be CONFIDENT that you have other opportunities.
Stop cheating yourself. You might have straight As at college but now the game is new. A paid job is a new thing and everyone start from scratch. Good scores, school sports, in many case, do not guarantee that you do decent work or deal with people the right way. It requires very different skills other than you time-tested test taking strategies that won you a place at college, a degree and your CONFIDENCE.
No, now you don’t have any CONFIDENCE. A paid job is a different game from school works. When you accept this fact and stop cheating yourself, you are already starting to be successful in your first step of career building.
Now think of the requirements of the job, not yourself. Stop thinking of the 2 inches thick book that you have cracked in your school library, stop thinking of your popularity among school girls. Now all your pride at school stop to make any sense to your new game, a paid job.
You success here will not be scores, not school football team, not the girl you were dating. It is your “performance” and attitude” that count. Unfortunately most fresh grads just don’t have experience and skills needed to impress your boss, then there is only one weapon left in your hand, ATTITUDE, you think you will fight a battle without it? Now you still refuse to to the odds and ends work? (此文由marconi在2003-05-28 18:13:09编辑过)
