have to/has to 是情态动词,与must一样表示义务,责任,必须要做的事情。但是...(请看下文)
must表示主观必须要做的事情,否定是needn't do something;
have to/has to (一般现在时第三人称单数用)表示客观上不得不做的事情,否定是 don't/doesn't have to do something;
"Everyone else in the class had to listen to what the big talkers had to say." 这句话中的第一个"had to"是have to 的过去时, "不得不"的意思; 第二个"had to"要拆开来看:had something to say, "to say"是不定式,做定语,had的宾语是what, 提前了。拆成两句:
Everyone else in the class had to listen to the big tlakers. The big talkers had something to say.
语法有时很枯燥,但是学点语法对于理解句子结构和意思有好处。比较简单易懂的语法书有: 《新概念英语语法手册》。但愿上述解释有帮助。
