In fact many people simply accept the pronunciation of "Qi" in other languages because it sounds really COOL. Like "Qi", the meaning of "Yuan" has evolved over the history into a fairly sophisticated philosophical concept. It embraces a broader meaning of describing inter personal relationships. I strongly think it has a similar meaning like "chemistry" when it is used in the man-woman relationship. It could also mean "Fate" or "Destiny" in other circumstances.
