251. Don't be so hard on yourself.对自己别太苛刻!
要想表达不要太苛责自己时,就可以利用这词组,说Don't be so hard on yourself.“别太自责”来安慰对方。当然万一是别人很严厉地对待他人,你想要帮忙说情,也可以代换说成:Don't be so hard on Mr. Lee.

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself.
这句话是用来安慰他人的,当有人对于自己太过苛责,给与自己让人喘不过气来的压 力,你就可以跟对方说这句话You shouldn't be so hard on yourself.「你不该这么苛责自己的」。让对方好过一些。

be hard on:对某人要求比较高
be hard on his employees,就是对雇员要求苛刻!

英解:to reply in a disrespectful manner
Talk back字面的意思是「说回去」,也就是「回嘴,顶嘴」的意思。
用在句子里,你可以说Don't talk back to your parents.「别跟父母顶嘴」。或是简洁地说Don't talk back. 「不许顶嘴」。

That's enough of your back talk. = I don't like the way you argue with me.
不许你回嘴。

A: You should not talk back to your teacher at class.

258. Row,beat it! 走开点。 = Get away。
beat it走开 Beat it! I"m busy right now. 走开!我现在正忙着。
语言点:1.Beat it在这里不是“打它”,而是“走开,滚蛋”的意思。由于其音调更铿锵有力,因此在日常口语中正越来越多地替代软绵绵的Go away。

He kept on bothering me, so I told him to beat it. 他老是来烦我,我就叫他走开。

259. get the better of=get the best of “战胜、胜过(某人)”的意思。
win over; beat ;defeat 赢得;打败;获胜

get the best of和 have the best of
这两个短语动词不容混淆: get the best of作“打败”讲,是对人而言; have the best of则是“得胜”或“成功”的意思,是对事而言。

We tried hard, but they had the best of the game.
我们全力以赴,可他们还是打赢了这场比赛。

260. beat-up old car, 老爷车
beat-up 通常用在形容東西經過長時間的使用後,破舊不堪的情形,如a beat-up car(破舊的車子)。

He drives a beat-up old car. 他開一輛破舊的老車?

Where did you get the beat-up old car? 你从哪儿弄来那辆老爷车?
= Where did you buy the broken-down car?
