Job Title: RF FIELD ENGINEER
Department: ENGINEERING
Location: Haidian District, Beijing
Reports to: Director of Broadcast Telecommunications
BEIJING OLYMPIC BROADCASTING (BOB) is a joint venture company established by Olympic Broadcast Services (host broadcaster of the IOC) and the Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee (BOCOG) to serve as the host broadcaster of the Beijing Olympic Games. As host broadcaster, BOB is responsible for producing and distributing unbiased radio and television coverage for the Olympic Games. In conjunction with this coverage BOB is responsible for the control and management of the Broadcast Services Network and will provide the necessary facilities and services in Beijing to international broadcasting companies.
BROADCAST TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Within the Technical Operations and Engineering department, Broadcast Telecommunications is responsible for planning, designing, engineering, installing and operating the Host Broadcast Contribution Network between all Venues and the IBC for the Video and associated Audio (VandA) connectivity as well as for the Commentary and Coordination lines and other control and command circuits. Additionally, Broadcast Telecommunications coordinates the RF planning activities with respect to BOB and RHB needs for their Intra-Venue and Wide-Area frequency requirements, maintains the relation to the relevant authorities through BOCOG and advises BOCOG regarding the RF related operational requirements of BOB and of the RHBs. Broadcast Telecommuni¬cations coordinates the supply of broadcast telecommunication equipment and services from 3rd party suppliers to BOB, supervises the systems implementation process of the contribution and production commu¬nications network, facilitates the Rights Holder’s technical requirements with respect to their unilateral circuits.
Job Objectives:
In accordance with the production requirements for the host broadcast operation the objective is to
• Support the planning of the Radio Frequency services which relate to the BOB and the RHB needs,
• work closely with the Venue Engineering department and 3rd party service providers in order to support the design and to implement solutions for the wireless connectivity for the signal transport of VandAs and for the production coordination circuits, such as
- Intra-Venue connectivity for RF cameras, RF microphones, walkie talkies, remote control applications etc.
- Wide-Area connectivity for ground-to-air and air-to-ground communi- cations, microwave links etc.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Participate in the designing of the wireless network infrastructure for the transport of VandA and CCA contribution.
• Support the implementation of the necessary quality assurance procedures.
• support and supervise the pre-installation and testing process,
• support and supervise the installation of the system in the final operational sites.
• Follow the schedule of Project Plan, to be submitted by CNC, and make sure that it progresses smoothly.
Knowledge/Skills
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with focus in Telecommunications
Relevant Experience
• Long time experience in RF and wired Telecommunications and/or Broadcasting systems design, installation and commissioning
Additional Requirements
• Fluent in English; knowledge in Chinese (Mandarin) is a significant asset
