A NAKED, female Chinese student fell to her death from her apartment’s third-floor balcony after she and three others had been taken hostage on Sunday in Sydney, Australia, Guangdong Province-based New Express reported today.
Wei Liao’s Korean boyfriend, Chris Han, also fell shortly after, but survived. Han, 19, suffered a broken back, pelvis and legs and is in critical condition, according to the report. He was also naked when he fell.
A Sydney Morning Herald report said it was believed that the couple had been forced at knife point to perform sex acts.
The New Express report said the couple had been held hostage along with their 20-year-old female Chinese roommate and a female friend for more than one hour.
The couple and their roommate studied at Taylors College.
Police said the intruder, who investigators described as dark-skinned and aged about 30, followed the couple's friend into the apartment building about noon on Sunday.
Once in the lift, the man held a knife to the woman's throat and accompanied her to the flat. After they entered the flat, the man locked the door and held everyone hostage, the report said.
The Chinese woman jumped from the 25-meter-high balcony on to concrete first and was followed seconds later by her boyfriend, according to the New Express report.
The Sydney Morning Herald, citing an unnamed witness, reported that Han was still coherent after the fall and that he told paramedics the intruder made them jump off the balcony. Police have not confirmed this information.
The intruder fled after they fell and remains at large.
The roommate and friend were not harmed.
Wei’s family is planning to travel to Australia following her death, the Sydney Morning Herald said.
