Hole found in plane that took off from Miami

DALLAS (AP) -- The National Transportation Safety Board says it doesn't know yet what caused a hole in the fuselage of an American Airlines Boeing 757.
An NTSB spokeswoman says an investigation is under way. She says experts are expected to study all possibilities, including metal fatigue and mechanical issues.
The hole caused the cabin to lose pressure shortly after the plane took off from Miami Tuesday night on a flight to Boston. One passenger said it as "pretty chaotic and confusing" when masks dropped from the ceiling. Edward Croce says his hands shook uncontrollably as he tried to send a goodbye text to his son back home.
The plane returned safely to Miami and is out of service. American Airlines says it has assigned a team of engineers and maintenance technicians to study it.
Former NTSB member and aircraft maintenance expert John Goglia says rips in the upper fuselage can be caused by metal fatigue, by damage during repairs, from bumping into something like a jetway or by corrosion due to exposure to moisture.
But Goglia says the 757 is "a rock solid airplane."
