Vaccinations
A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for all travellers over one year of age.
Recommended vaccinations for travellers:
ADULTS
Tetanus, Polio, Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Meningitis A & C and for those people at risk: Tuberculosis, Rabies.
CHILDREN
Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping Cough, Polio, Tuberculosis, Measles, German Measles, Mumps, Hepatitis A & B, (long stay), Meningitis A & C , Typhoid (long stay for those over 5 years old).
Food
Supplies: all local products: vegetables, meat, dairy products, fish. Imported products also available.
Excellent quality of local or imported meat in the big towns.
Hygiene in the markets, shops and restaurants: Good
Milk : Pasteurized or homogenized. Powdered: SMA, Klim, Cow Gate, Nestle.
Babyfood: Yes.
Beverages
Avoid tap water. Drink bottled water.
Locally bottled water: Miotoni (controlled).
Imported bottled water: Evian, Vichy.
Other non alcoholic drinks: Coca Cola, Seven-Up, Pepsi-Cola, Ginger Ale, Sprite, Schweppes (controlled).
Alcoholic drinks: authorized.

Medical Evacuations
A medical evacuation is indicated each time that a medical problem is serious and that the local medical resources are insufficient.
A special sanitary Medevac flight will be used whenever a regular commercial flight cannot be used: emergency situations, patient requiring isolated conditions (agitated, contagious), seriousness of the medical problem requiring specific medical equipment and assistance.
Evacuation by regular commercial flights requires authorization from the airline's medical department or doctor.
In certain cases, it is totally unacceptable and contra-indicated to put a person on a commercial flight:
· If there is an acute surgical condition which may deteriorate during the flight;
· In the case of:
o cardiovascular instability;
o Non-drained gaseous effusion (pneumothorax, intestinal occlusion);
o Contagious diseases;
o Agitation, nauseating odor, incontinence.
