American/Chinese Dating
I found this post interesting enough to show people in this forum, it talks about mutual stereotypes about Chinese/American dating. Please enjoy.

Stereotypes & Views of Chinese/American Dating Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 3:14 pm

Chinese Views of American/Chinese Dating
She wants a visa.
Dating a lao wai is proof that the Chinese girl has lost her "national spirit."
"Aren't Chinese guys good enough for you?"
Note: Multiply the above 3 comments by 10 if the Chinese girl is Shanghainese.
The lao wai just wants sex. He will leave her as soon as he finds another girl to have sex with.

American Views of American/Chinese Dating
She wants a visa.
The American guy is obviously too weird or inept to get American women (who are obviously superior to foreign women), so he looks for foreign women (who all want a visa).
The American guy has some weird Asian sexual fetish.
The American guy wants a subservient, submissive wife who will treat him like the Emperor of China.

Note: If a white guy is dating an ABC, then only the sexual fetish applies -- everything else is cancelled out by the fact that the ABC is an American woman (and thus doesn't need a visa).

The above views are obviously extreme -- and I would hesitate to label them "typical" -- but you would be surprised how often you run into those attitudes from both Chinese and Americans. To be honest, I think you generally run into more negative attitudes/stereotypes about American/Chinese dating from Chinese. Dating "foreigners" is so common in the US that mainstream American views on this subject aren't so negative. People are more used to it, and don't even take notice of it so much in the US (although this could be greatly affected by where you live in the US). That is my experience, anyway.
