（如果這是學生在我的作文課寫的句子成績一定是零分重寫。）整個句子文法是錯的，其實也沒有什麼意義，只是伯爵夫人胡謅的另一句話。句子Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others（不要想說你不是別人看起來的那樣）句子中間的it應該是you，而且之後不能再接that子句。後半個句子若是獨立句，That what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise.則意思是：別人看起來會覺得以前的你，或是你應該可以成就的你，根本跟一直以來的你是一樣的這種情形是是不可能的。
